Valentine’s Day is a favorite day for sending
cards to people we like, but do you know how this custom may have begun?
Many years ago an emperor of Rome wanted more
men to serve in his army. He knew that married men did not want to have home.
So he made a rule that no man could get married until he had served in the
army. Many young people in love were sad. A priest named Valentine felt sorry
for the young loves and began to marry them. The Emperor found out and put
Valentine in prison. He died on February 14th, after many years in
jail.
People in love began sending message to
each other on this date, and today we send many kinds of friendly cards on
Valentine’s Day.
